the all-politics edition
Have you checked out the White House blog? They’ve actually got people who seem to understand how a blog works:
(Although I hope he’ll stop talking about carbon footprints for a couple of days at least, after basically flying to Canada for lunch.)
I’m hardly a strict constructionist, but I don’t see how this one passes constitutional muster. The NY Times editorial claims they’ve got it figured out, but I’m not buying it. DC should totally have the vote, but the legal way to do it is either statehood (although DC wouldn’t be a very viable state) or to give the land back to Virginia and Maryland, leaving only the largely non-residential core in the federal district. Or amending the Constitution, of course.
Looks like the Senate should have stuck to its guns on not seating anyone appointed by Blagojevich. It was an early sign of weakness by the Dems, and may have emboldened the Republicans to take a hard line on later issues (read: stimulus.)
Coleman vs. Franken- yes, it’s still going on:
- Senate recount trial: Franken legal win streak continues
- Coleman v. Franken aims toward Bush v. Gore in Washington
- Coleman-Franken trial: Coleman effort to change judges’ minds is denied
- ‘Fatal’ attraction: Norm’s lawyers again rip judges
And guess who else went to court today?
